In particular, note on the left the failure of the brush to express the structural sweep of the forehead, executed so deftly on the right, where we can sense the headís true recession into space. Compare also the liquid intensity of the eyes on the right with those on the left, which have clearly been less well understood: consider the white highlight on the far eyelid, and the odd drawing of the iris of the near eye which overlaps the eyelid as if it might fall out of her head.

Also, in general colour terms, on the right the dark colour of the hair, even the deep, almost black of the iris are related to the colours of the flesh. There is no such sensitive relation of colour to be seen on the left, where the hair has been depicted using a lazy choice of local black, and the flesh with a lazy choice of local ochre.
